This is responsible work planning, coordinating and directing specific functions and activities associated with animal services programs.

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

Court Liaison

• Supervision of dispatchers including scheduling, payroll and performance reviews.
• Coordinates Animal Services Citation program and maintains necessary records for court appearances; coordinates expert witness testimony, and initiates action on notices of court appeal dates.
• Manages animal cruelty, neglect, abused and abandonment program and maintains files and statistical reports pertaining to this program.
• Prepares cases for criminal prosecution of animal cruelty and serves as a liaison to the State Attorney’s Office regarding criminal prosecutions.
• Coordinates the Responsible Pet Ownership training including course preparation, presentation and conducting attendance audits.
• Manages and obtains search and seizure warrants.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Adoption Coordinator

• Manages adoption program by conducting health and temperament assessments on impounded animals, to determine suitability for adoption or placement with a rescue partner.
• Coordinates Animal Services Foster Program including post-placement medical regime reviews.
• Manages contracts with rescue organizations by conducting annual inspections of the rescue facilities, and records to ensure contract compliance.
• Prepares daily surgery schedule in coordination with the clinic to schedule animals for sterilization.
• Reviews all adoption applications for suitability of the adopter, as well as suitability for the animal selected for the home by conducting interviews and individual home inspections for bully breed adoptions prior to approving the animal for adoption.
• Prepares statistics for live dispositions which includes the tracking of animals adopted, rescued, fostered and relocated.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Dangerous Dog Coordinator

• Manages and directs Dangerous and Potentially Dangerous Dog program, including investigations, case and document preparations, interviews with victims and owners, and presenting of cases at hearing and appeal boards.
• Reviews all bite documentation and releases animals from quarantine per state and county status.
• Meets with owners/victims, as required, to explain procedures and dangerous dog classifications.
• Coordinates Health Department review and release of owner home quarantine animals.
• Acts as a liaison with Health Department regarding rabies outbreaks and citizen notifications.
• Oversees and directs County registration program for Pet Dealers and Kennels.
• Conducts routine and non-routine inspection of facilities.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Bachelors degree from an accredited institutuion relevant to area assigned .

In lieu of the degree requirements additional relevant experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.

Court Liaison

Two (2) years of experience in conducting investigations and case preparation. This experience can be in law enforcement, code enforcement, military, animal control, or other related field.

Within six (6) months of hire, successfully complete the following:

• A mandatory forty (40) hour Animal Control Course as required by Florida Statutes.
• Orange County Animal Services Officer Training Course.
• A sixteen (16) hour Chemical Capture Course.

Within one (1) year of hire, successfully complete the following:

• A sixteen (16) hour Euthanasia Certification Course.

Adoption Coordinator

Two (2) years of experience in animal handling, training, rescue, or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience. Experience must include advanced record keeping skills, good computer skills, and great customer service skills due to heavy citizen involvement and interaction.

Dangerous Dog Coordinator

Two (2) years of experience in conducting investigations, case preparation and K-9 behavior. This experience can be in law enforcement, code enforcement, military, animal control, or other related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

Within six (6) months of hire, successfully complete the following:
