ACCOUNTING CLERK

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

General Functions
   Performs responsible clerical and accounting duties in preparing and maintaining fiscal and payroll records. This is work requiring independent judgment in the application of established work methods and procedures.

Responsible for preparing and maintaining account books and ledgers, posting transactions, verifying invoices, and performing routine calculations. Duties may include providing functional guidance to lower-level employees.

Work is performed under the general supervision of an assigned supervisor who reviews work through periodic audits for accuracy and compliance with established procedures.
 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of accounting records including payroll, accounts payable and subsidiary accounts.
  • Compiles accounting data for preparation of reports and statements.
  • Operates a computer using software for word processing, spreadsheets, email and financial data.
  • Receives, audits and verifies invoices and statements from vendors .
  • Reviews and verifies payroll registers and other fiscal documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Receives, audits and verifies requisitions and procurement card transactions.
  • Communicates with vendors and internal customers for reconciliations.
  • Assists internal staff with receiving, inventory and other related duties.
  • May provide functional guidance to lower-level employees.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
 
Minimum Qualifications
   Graduation from high school or equivalent and three years experience in a cash handling, purchasing, accounts payable or other related role. Vocational or college-level training in finance or accounting may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
