SHELTER OPERATIONS SUPERVISOR

General Functions
  

Performs duties related to the care of impounded animals, euthanasia and maintenance of Orange County Animal Services Shelter; supervises all shelter employees and has overall responsibility for shelter operations in both the receiving and holding areas.

Work is assigned and performed under the direction of the Program Manager of the Clinic and Kennel Operations.

 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

  • Supervises and schedules kennel staff to ensure proper coverage for all aspects of shelter operations.
  • Maintains inventory of all kennel supplies to include food, litter, cleaning chemicals and miscellaneous supplies.
  • Disciplines, trains, counsels and evaluates all assigned staff.
  • Maintains all files for controlled substances used in shelter operations.
  • Performs quality control inventory for shelter animals.
  • Oversees and maintains customer support and problem resoulutions in all areas of the kennels.
  • Drives Spay/Neuter bus in remote Orange County locations.
  • Reports any building maintenance issues to applicable part for follow-up.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  

High school diploma or equivalent.

Four (4) years working experience, with three (3) years experience as an Animal Services Officer working with the public resolving problems/complaints and dealing with enforcement related issues. Two (2) years Animal Services or other supervisory experience can be substituted for two (2) of the three (3) years experience as an Animal Services Officer. Must have at least one (1) year of experience in all aspects of euthanasia.

Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.

Ability to follow and understand procedures.

Maintain a home telephone number.

Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.

Within six (6) months of hire, successfully complete and/or obtain the following:

  • A mandatory forty (40) hour Animal Control Officer Certification Course as required by Florida Statutes.
  • State of Florida Incinerator Certification, or successfully complete the required training and obtain certification.
  • A valid Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger Endorsement.

Within one (1) year of hire, successfully complete and obtain the following:

  • A sixteen (16) hour Euthanasia Certification Course.
