General Functions
  

Oversee the activities of the Zoning Division, responsible for providing services to County Citizens. Provide Zoning Commission with recommendations and interpretations regarding land use issues. Provide the Code Enforcement Board with evidence and testimony in the enforcement of zoning codes. Provide BZA and LPA with recommendations on land use issues

 
Representative Duties /Assignments
  

Duties may vary based on area of assignment. The following are representative duties, it is not the intent to capture all duties performed by this classification.

  • Provide recommendations and reports to the Zoning Commission on zoning current and future land use designations including re-zoning requests and applications for variances and special exceptions.
  • Provide the Board of County Commissioners with recommendations and interpretations regarding land use issues.
  • Review division correspondence and interoffice mail for action needed.
  • Respond to public inquiries regarding project information and appeal status and zoning regulation changes involving direct confrontation or telephone conversations.
  • Interpret zoning regulations to establish or change County policies and procedures.
  • Review current and proposed policies/regulations with department managers.
  • Review applicants’ requests for development plans with division staff and citizens.
  • Review applicant information for public hearings.
  • Responsible for various personnel matters including hiring, discipline, training and development, performance appraisals and related activities.
  • Develop and monitor division budget.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Public Administration, Planning or a related field.

Five (5) years of experience in zoning, planning or development industry in an administrative capacity involving preparation and enforcement of governmental regulations, to include three (3) years of supervisory experience.

In lieu of the degree requirements additional relevant experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.

Must also have experience in working with the public, advisory boards, and governing boards on land use regulations and issues.

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Planning or a related field.
