COMMISSION & STAFF Don R. Ammerman, Commissioner City of Orlando Appointee
As a licensed Real Estate Broker and State Licensed General Contractor, President of ComTech Properties, along with being a resident of Orlando since 1972, Commissioner Ammerman has been directly involved in the phenomenal, progressive growth of the Central Florida area specializing in Corporate, Industrial and Medical office real estate.
After serving on the municipal Planning Board (1983-1989, 2 terms as Chairman), Chairman of the Orlando Growth Management/Concurrency Implementation Committee and Chairman of the 1991 Orlando Redistricting Committee, Commissioner Ammerman successfully ran for office to fill the two years remaining in the term of District 1 City Commissioner when the incumbent resigned to run for Mayor in 1992. In 1994, he was unopposed and won another 4-year term in 1998. Commissioner Ammerman served as a Board Member of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority and past member and Chairman of the Sunshine State Governmental Finance Commission for 10 years. Nationally, he served on the Leadership Training Council for the National League of Cities. Commissioner Ammerman finished his City Council Service in June, 2002.
His commitment to community service includes: Philanthropy Chair and active member of the Board of Directors for the Orlando Regional HealthCare Foundation; Hospital for Women & Children; is a trained volunteer with the Neo Natal Unit for 22 years at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Women & Children; serves as a teacher at the First Presbyterian Church; an instructor with the State Board of Realtors and the National Association of Industrial/Office Parks (NAIOP), and is certified as a Special Master for Orange County Circuit Court, as well as an expert witness for the Florida Department of Transportation sand Florida Power Corporation.
Other responsibilities he has voluntarily assumed are membership on the Florida Citrus Sports Association; Greater Orlando Leadership Foundation; a graduate of Leadership Orlando and Leadership Florida and the Dr. Phillips Foundation Grant Review Committee. Additionally, he has taught Ethics in Government courses to Sunday schools at area churches. Other involvements are Past National Admissions Chairman/Society of Industrial & Office Parks Realtors; Past President/Central Florida Chapter of NAIOP; Past Chairman/Church Street Counseling Center; Past Board Member/American Heart Association; Rotary Group Study Exchange Team (Florida to Australia).
Commissioner Ammerman is a graduate of Indiana University with a B.S. in Real Estate & Marketing and an MBA in Real Estate-Marketing/Finance. As a recipient of two Ford Foundation Grants for overseas study during Graduate School, he studied Comparative International Economics while in Western Europe, Communist Block Countries and Russia. He also completed the John F. Kennedy School of Government for Senior Executives in State and Local Government at Harvard University. Commissioner Ammerman currently serves as a Blue & Gold Admissions Officer for the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis.
The Ammerman family is comprised of wife Linda, daughter Katie (an Elon College graduate), daughter Amy (a B.S. & Masters Degree graduate of Florida State University) and "Baily" (a Shihtzu).
