Miles of unspoiled sanctuary trails for hiking along the scenic shoreline of the Econlockhatchee River with plenty of wildlife to view; wildlife spottings may include bald eagles, sandhill cranes, red-cockaded woodpeckers, gopher tortoises, bobcats, river otters and indigo snakes.
Trails are available for hiking, horseback riding and bicycling, and fishing is permitted. Primitive camping is allowed in designated sites. (Motorized vehicles are not permitted.)
A portion of this area was acquired by the St. Johns River Water Management District using funds from the Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority and the Florida Department of Transportation as part of the mitigation for beltway construction in the southern part of the county. Orange County funding provided the partnership to establish this regional preserve that protects the resources of the Econlockhatchee River.
